Wednesday Wizard 7- Karbakka Shah, Cosmic Dragon Sorcerer
This rather large mini was started back in August last year. I was a little intimidated by the size of him, but still got a little start to painting at that time. But then he sat for months until I started doing the Wednesday Wizards painting stunt in December. I realized this would be the perfect reason to nudge my paintbrushes towards finishing up 'Karbakka Shah.'
I decided to keep his robes a simple canvas brownish color. Originally, I thought some outlandish purple with designs would be cool, but after he was primed and drybrush-zenithaled, it was clear that the robes were actually pretty messed up. Thus it was a simpler look.
I didn't use any metallics on him. His bracers were originally going to be a gold or bronze, but they ended up pretty simple too. The fancy design on the bracers and around his hood got some yellowish-not-quite-NMM gold to stand out from the robes and bracers.
After painting a bit on the shell, I realized it was sculpted as sort of a mix of shell and fabric or something. This is when all my usual rules went out the window and I started to just go with whatever felt right in the moment. A few watered down dark washes helped hide all the 'mistakes' and then some random highlight helped make him look okay.
I used a mix of blues and teals for his skin. For his fingernails, I wanted something different, so they got red, perhaps poison of some kind. The staff got the old faded wood treatment that came out pretty good. I'm also proud of how the various horns and bones came out I surprised myself on them.
Now, all seven of the Wednesday Wizards are assembled. This clearly shows off how large Karbakka is.
