Two Predators

After far too long, I've finally finished a couple resin Predator miniatures from two different sources.

This first Predator is from Predastore (I think I got him from Noble Knight during one of their big sales over 10 years ago). He was mounted on one of the plastic Micro-Art Studios/CoolMini fancy bases because he deserved it. But that pose... He sat unpainted on my painting desk for years, and endured a couple of moves. During the latest move, he was jostled enough in whatever box he was in to snap off his blaster and his body at the ankle. So I put him away carefully wrapped in some tissue until I recently decided "Fthis, let's paint the f-ing guys right now!"

I drilled and pinned both breaks and then started finishing up the partial paintjob. Some washes helped bring out some details and I added some aqua blue spots on his back and upper arms to give some more interest. I mixed some darker aqua/teal fir his dreadlocks. For the armor, I tried to do a mix of dull metallic steel and some bronze or darker golds. He probably won't win any painting awards, but he's done and doesn't look too bad. Plus, he is unlikely to break again, hopefully.

The Aliens vs Predator miniatures boardgame was something I bought into pretty heavily. If you don't know what went down with the delays and Prodos eventually losing the license (or potentially not even having it) you can use your search engine of choice to get the details. The resin figures were fine, but not great, especially the Alien miniatures (I've got a few that I didn't sell off that are still unassembled). But some of the Predator figures were not too bad to deal with. This guy is the first of the few I kept to be cleaned and based (again on a MicroArt/CoolMini fancy base).

It's a classic pose with lots of detail. I decided to ignore the specific details an let washes and other paintbrush trickery do some heavy lifting on the paintjob. I think this one turned out pretty okay. I believe he was the first one of this duo I started. He was a sturdy enough piece to survive the moves the first guy could not- survival of the fittest?

Before the standard comparison pics, I thought I should dig out some xenomorph figures to see how the Gale Force Nine Aliens look next to my first Predators (well, there were those olde nice Copplestone not-Predators from a very long time ago).

I have a few more resin Predators (from both the Predastore and the AVP Kickstarter) to build and bas. Hopefully these two guys have gotten the ball rolling...
