Steampunk Fairy (1st Mini of '25) 'Emberflax'

What better way to start off the New Year than with a great Werner Klocke miniature? Sure, she's been partially painted for longer than I would like to admit. Yet, having her done and looking pretty good makes for a positive start to the year.

As with most Werner Klocke minis, Emberflax took a very long time to get a rough idea of a color scheme, I was afraid8 would somehow ruin her. I played around with her base first- brick colors  and  metallic tools and bits didn't really help me decide on colors for the fairy herself.

I knew she needed to have pale skin, eventually I decided the lighter grey would look good. For that beautiful Klocke face, I wanted some kind of face paint, I settled on a sort of skull motif because it's easy to make it look good enough.

I started on her hat but quickly abandoned it for the dress. I had to use my favorite aqua blue, but with a twist. There's a metallic aqua color I haven't used much and after browsing fairy gowns for reference, it hit me that some random shimmery areas would go great on her. Then it was dirty yellowish for her stockings (I abandoned the idea of stripes almost right away). Then back to her hat for the checkerboard pattern.

Here we have the first scale comparison shot of the year with a different Raging Heroes Jailbird, the same old Primaris Marine, and a heavy weapon Victoria Miniatures Highlander.

She has so many possibilities- if I still had a copy of Fairy Meat, she would be an excellent 1:1 scale fairy. More likely she's going to see action in the Tech Bazaar or other Inquisimunda stuff. I like how she turned out, though I kind of wanted a smaller checkerboard pattern on her hat. What's next to be painted in the new year?
